Meltdown Tracker is developed by a certified adult autism instructor who is also an autism parent. Both interactive tools are built to support meltdowns and shutdowns, which I find very little mention of in books and resources. Using a visual style of fresh and basic sketches, the tools are easy to use, vibrant and available. Topics include what to do with easy-to-follow graphics during a meltdown.
Research has shown that visual information is easier to recall for everyone. This is especially important in times of stress, such as trying to help someone with a meltdown.
In one resource, titled ‘What helps during a meltdown?’ each of the five steps listed spells out ‘HELPS’, which will hopefully be easy to recall when you are trying to help someone during a meltdown.
There is also a guide full of exercises called Cold Tracker about how to make a person know that they are cold and take action to help. This colorful and immersive resource will help someone know when they’re cold and what to do about it.
