The characteristics of the student with autism are diverse. They may be associated with intellectual disabilities, physical and sensory disorders, limited interests, difficulties in dealing with emotions. It is recommended that the student should be motivated, using areas that are very interesting for him/her. The use of visual maps, colorful codes, etc. is also important. The instructions must be clear and precise. Communication must be supported by images. Oral instructions should be supported by visual aids, placed on the student’s desk. It is obligatory to provide the necessary rest to the student. He should not be required to watch or write while listening. The autistic student may perceive the environment as confusing, even threatening. To avoid this, he must occupy the same place, sitting next to the same classmate. When choosing the student`s location, it should not be forgotten that they may be hypersensitive to noise, light, temperature, odor, food and more. The design of the space has an essential role in reducing stress factors. A good piece of advice to the teacher is not to talk to the autistic student during a crisis, because this is additional to his/her difficulties, as he/she is already in a situation of “sensory overload”. It is very important to identify the signs that precede the disorder, aiming to prevent it. The student with autism needs to know what’s next and what’s going to happen. If changes occur, they cause anxiety or anger. To reduce fatigue and stress, the necessary rest must be provided and a place, where the student can be isolated.
