- Children with autism have difficulties in the field of social interactions, verbal and nonverbal communication. To be able to fit appropriately in the class, it is necessary for the child to meet his/her teacher in advance, before the beginning of the school year. These meetings are due to the fact that the autistic child, falling into an unfamiliar environment, can easily lose his/her fragile emotional balance. The first preliminary meeting between the teacher, the parents and the child’s therapist takes place. It aims to acquaint the teacher with the most effective ways to communicate with the child – whether there is spoken speech (though not clearly articulated) or visualized methods of communication will be used. The therapist acquaints the teacher with the individual characteristics of the autistic child and the situations that may cause him/her frustration. The areas in which the child shows a strong interest should be outlined. After the preliminary meeting, a series of meetings of the teacher with the autistic child take place before the beginning of the school year. They are held in the presence of his/her parents and the therapist. That way the child feels calmer. As a result of the joint efforts, the child manages to accept their teacher and not feel anxious in his/her presence. Users – school teachers, special educators, therapists and parents.
