The child with autism is hypersensitive in some respects – louder sounds, brighter light and more. A slight collision in the corridor with another classmate can be perceived as a violent attack. In this case, the unpleasant stimuli must be identified and reduced. Some children like to have a place away from the hustle and bustle of the classroom. This would keep their emotional balance. A useful tool in this case are, for example, noise-canceling headphones. But they should not be used regularly to avoid addiction. Another good solution is a small screen at the workplace. The breaks can be a big problem for the child with autism because of noise, movement, crowds and unpredictable contacts. The child can panic and trigger unacceptable behavior. It is appropriate to allow the child to take a book, a toy or other thing that calms them down. A quiet corner in the classroom or in the library can be provided, but under adult supervision. Another good solution is to allow the child to enter or leave a few minutes before or after the others to avoid noise and fuss in the corridor. A child with autism may behave unacceptably and be rejected by his or her classmates. To avoid such situations, the teacher can explain to the class what autism is. This conversation is conducted with the consent of the parents and in order to avoid moments that would frustrate the child. Users – school teachers, special educators and parents.
