Disorders in social relationships can be noticed after birth, but very often this happens when starting kindergarten or school, in the cases of high social expectations of the child. This requires the need of speech therapy in order to develop and stimulate communication and also to improve the social skills. This report discusses the following strategies for improving social skills – social stories, video modeling and the so-called guiding procedures. The concept of social stories helps in different social situations. When a social story is used, it is used in a combination with a behavioural repetition. The repetition allows the child to perform a skill or behaviour without tension and anxiety, so these stories are sometimes related to real situations. Tips to keep in mind when composing a social story:

• Have a purpose
• Choose a specific situation
• Use a positive tone
• Use simple language
